Short and Sweet

Had a short session tonight. Played 374 hands and made about $80. I think the most interesting hand from tonight is the one below. It even started a decent little debate thread on the 2+2 forums here. Will I be able to play poker for more than $2 a
bet in Florida soon

From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

But the bill (HB 1551) is just one of a host of gambling measures that appears likely to be approved by the traditionally gambling-shy Legislature this spring.

Just four hours after the council vote Monday, the House also approved a series of gaming measures, including bills that would raise wagering limits in poker rooms and loosen regulations at the four Broward County facilities allowed to operate Las Vegas-style slot machines.

Critics called the combined package a testament to the influence in Tallahassee of the gambling industry, which annually showers hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions on state candidates and committees.

Records show that horse and dog tracks, jai-alai frontons, Indian tribes and other gaming interests funneled more than $2.5 million to Florida's ruling Republican Party during the 2006 election cycle and more than $1.2 million to the Florida Democratic Party.

Never too late to learn

Learned an interesting lesson last week at a poker game. NLHE, hosted by Ryan (a regular attendee of the Diamond games).

I'm in the big blind with two offsuit small cards. I see a flop in an unraised, multi-way pot. The flop is A-2-4.

It is checked to me.

I can't remember which two small cards I have. I think I might have flopped a straight.

Someone wiser than I might have checked their hole cards before deciding on action. I decide to check, and THEN check my hole cards.

I flopped the straight. And check-called the rest of the way, giving free cards that ended up allowing my opponent to catch up and make the 6 high straight.

Lesson: CHECK YOUR HOLE CARDS before acting! Sheesh.

That's the first bit of live poker I've played in a while. It's the first poker of any kind I played in April. Work has been a bit nutty.

You'll be glad to know that not only am I playing a SnG right now on Full Tilt, but I've only got 2 more weeks of work before my schedule dramatically decreases for the summer.

I'm still a ? re: Vegas this summer. Money's been tight. I'll try my damnedest!

My friend Scott who hosts the local Diamond game is holding a charity game this weekend to benefit the American Cancer Society. $20 rebuy NLHE. Jim of the Nice Table Games hosted it last year. We hope to carry on this tradition. Cancer is something that somehow seems to touch us all. If you haven't had cancer, you know someone who's been affected by it. I say we play some poker and kick this cancer thing to the curb! The way my crowd plays in rebuys, we should have a nice juicy donation by the end of the night.

Back to folding on Full Tilt...

WSOP Circuit at Caesar's Palace Final Table and WPT Paris

By Pauly

Poker in Paris? The WPT Season 5 will air their first episode tonight on the Travel Channel. This is an important episode because the WPT will be moving to the GSN so it's the last season to be aired on the Travel Channel. Plus, this might be the last stop ever for the WPT in Paris at the Aviation Club since French authorities cock-blocked the WPT for Seaon 6. The suits at the WPT added Barcelona to their schedule instead.

My buddy Thomas Wahlroos made the final table in Paris along with Jani Sointula, who is also from Finland. Should be a good episode.

And as Wicked Chops predicted, Sabina Gadecki will not be returning to Season 6 as hostess of the WPT. Better get your Sabina fix while you can.

BJ Nemeth ad I will be live blogging the final table of the WSOP Circuit event at Caeser's Palace starting at 2pm Vegas time. Here's who made the final table:

Seat 1: Chad Brown 136K
Seat 2: Vasile Buboi 349K
Seat 3: Justin Pechie 307K
Seat 4: Cory Carroll 713K
Seat 5: Eric Davis 272K
Seat 6: Steve Wong 573K
Seat 7: Michelle Law 192K
Seat 8: Paul Kitsos 327K
Seat 9: David "The Dragon" Pham 491K
First place pays $506K. My ick to win it is The Dragon. Head over to PokerNews to follow our live updates of the final table. BJ will be doing play-by-play and I'll be adding color commentary.

Also, check out Flipchip's WSOP Circuit photos.

I have one more day of work, then I can take off a month from traveling and the tournament circuit to return to NYC and rest up for the 2007 WSOP.
